Facilities management is one of the fastest growing professions in the UK. Facilities managers are responsible for many of the buildings and services which support businesses and other types of organisation. Founded in 1993, The British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) provides information, education, training and networking services for over 12,000 members - both individual professionals and organisations.
BIFM is the professional body representing the interests of Facilities Management. Its function is to promote high standards, to foster professionalism and to emphasise the responsibility of members to society, to their clients and to each other. The BIFM is the 'natural home' of facilities management in the UK. All members undertake to abide by a Code of Professional Conduct including:
• Members should conduct themselves at all times in a manner befitting a professional of BIFM and in no circumstances to engage in any act or behaviour that could bring BIFM or its membership into disrepute • Members shall undertake to keep abreast of new knowledge and techniques and to share that information wherever and whenever appropriate for the general benefit of their professional colleagues •Members shall participate whenever possible in the activities of BIFM and promote and protect the interests of the Institute • Members shall promote the education and training of Facilities Managers wherever practical • Members shall encourage suitable candidates to apply for membership of BIFM • Members should have due regard to the effects of their work on the ecology and environment. They should seek to minimise any direct or indirect harm their work might cause and promote methods of working which are environmentally friendly • Members should seek to encourage the conservation of energy and the recycling of used products, packaging and materials
'It is equally important to our clients that our procedures and work practices are accredited by a respected professional body who actively encourage training and education to ensure our staff have the skills and aptitude in order to complete the job safely, competently and to the standards our clients are accustomed to. As a member of The British Institute of Facilities Management since October 2010, Ottimo adhere to the Institute's Code of Professional Conduct.'
